SDR Demonstrator Program

Burnaby, B.C., Canada, November 14, 2003. Spectrum Signal Processing Inc. has announced that flexComm software defined radio (SDR) platforms have been shipped to Elektrobit, a European R&D partner for companies that use wireless technologies, for the baseband processing subsystem of the Finnish Software Defined Radio Demonstrator. Elektrobit has a 12 million euro contract to develop this SDR demonstrator for the Finnish Defense Forces, of which Spectrum's SDR-3000 products will form a core component.

The SDR platforms, based on the flexComm SDR-3000 family, use Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) and PowerPC-based signal processing engines, as well as Wind River's VxWorks Real-Time Operating System (RTOS).

NASA uses Spectrum software defined radio technology for satellite communications

GREENBELT, Md. - Experts at NASA' Goddard Space Flight Center needed a solution that could enable satellites to communicate directly to one another for their Cross Link Integrated Development Environment (CLIDE) program. Software defined radio technology from Spectrum Signal Processing in Burnaby, British Columbia, met their needs.

NASA Goddard engineers will use Spectrum's SDR-3000 subsystems to develop technologies to facilitate satellite-to-satellite communications, a key requirement for future NASA missions. Spectrum is also providing software-based modem cores implemented in Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA) to facilitate a faster development schedule.

Boston, MA , October 22, 2003. Spectrum Signal Processing announced at the MILCOM 2003 show that it will be providing software defined radio platforms to Cubic Defense Applications, a subsidiary of Cubic Corporation. The solutions are based on Spectrum's SDR-3000 family of software reconfigurable platforms, and will be used for software defined radio waveform development.

Software defined radios will be used in military communications to provide seamless real-time communications to warfighters through voice, data or video. The next generation of military radios will be able to communicate with new or legacy radios by downloading the appropriate waveform in software. This interoperability will enable better communications between different military forces, enabling more effective engagements.
